Post Discussion Reflection (Nov 10th)

In todays discussion, Mr. Thomas asked the class which are their favorite and least favorite passages. My favorite passage is the one that tells Jacob gave a hug to Taw to thank him for making his bike. It was a nice gesture and it makes me like the passage. My least favorite passage is when the thieves hit Jacob when he tried to get back his bike. The thieves had already done something bad by stealing Jacob's bike and they made themselves look even worst by whacking Jacob when he was just trying to get back what belong to him. During the discussion, someone posted the question about how we would feel when someone stole our bike. I think I would be really angry and report it to the police. If I saw my lost bike in a warehouse, I would make sure to let the police know about it and get the thieves arrested. The Kachina Doll that belonged to Jacob's father raised a question about its symbol. Some said it might be a symbol for good luck. When I was reading the book, I thought that the owner of the pawnshop was just giving a chance to Jacob to go to Kenya. But I was wrong. According to my group, the owner was sorry for Jacob because his mother has just died so he added another $100 for the things that Jacob pawned. After the discussion, I realized that Jacob was not a coward as I thought he was initially. Now, I think he is a boy that never gives up on what he wants to achieve until he achieves it.
